Brewery & Beer Awards

Welcome to the Indies Awards 2019, Australia’s largest independent beer competition showcasing the best of the independent brewing industry.

We will be celebrating excellence in the Independent Brewing Industry at the Indies awards ceremony, held at at Showtime Events Centre on South Wharf on 5 September.

The Indies awards are growing with our industry. Alongside the traditional range of Indies awards, we have introduced several new trophies this year to better reflect our changing sector.

Brewery Awards

Champion Independent Breweries

The top Independent Brewery of each size bracket is awarded a Champion Independent Brewery Award. This is determined by calculating the points of the brewery’s top four beer entries.

Brewpubs are an integral part of the independent beer sector and often become hubs for their local communities. To recognise the contribution of brewpubs, we have introduced the Champion Australian Brewpub Trophy, open to breweries that sell at least 75% of their beers on-site.

Category Criteria
Champion Australian Independent Large Brewery Annual production: 300,000 – 40 million litres
Champion Australian Independent Small/Medium Brewery Annual production: <300,000 litres per annum
Champion Australian Independent Brewpub At least 75% beer produced on-site

State/Territory Champion Breweries

Each state and territory within Australia has its own community of independent brewers that develop unique beers, often sourced from local ingredients. The State/Territory Champion Brewery Trophy is awarded to the top brewery for each state or territory, and is available to all breweries regardless of size.
