Brewery Tour No.1 – Marrickville Walking Tour

Right next to the coffee roasters and Vietnamese eateries, Marrickville is arguably best known for its concentration of amazing breweries. Right in the centre of what has been become known as the Inner West golden triangle of breweries.

First stop on this walking tour is Batch Brewing Co. the suburbs oldest brewery. Batch has been known to average a new beer release every 10 days. A short walk up the road is the area’s newest brewery, Sauce Brewing, Next stop on the tour is a visit to Wildflower brewing and Blending where Topher will take us on a journey of mixed fermentation. Last stop is Grifter Brewing Company we learn how they started as gypsy brewers at Young Henrys before moving out to their own space and taking the original young henrys brew house with them.

Brewery Tour No.2 –
Inner West Bus Tour

Proving that Marrickville is not the only brewery suburb in the Inner West. This tour explores more of the areas brewery scene.

Starting at Wayward Brewing Co, we learn of their journey from gypsy brewers to finding their permanent home whilst nestled in the old concrete wine vats. A quick stop to the Forrest Lodge hotel or as it’s known by the locals “The Flodge” for lunch. Last stop is Akasha where we chat with Dave and his team about their love of hops and how they have grown with the new expansions to their brewery.

Brewery Tour No.3 –
Northern Exposure

Get a taste of the beach life with a beer in hand. The Northern Beaches has established itself as Sydney’s second major brewery hotspot. The beaches scene has breweries from all sizes all with their own unique style that can only come from being that close to the beach.

First stop on the tour is Nomad Brewing Co. Where we learn how Johnny and Kerrie teamed up with Leonardo Di Vincenzo from Birra Del Borgo and their use of native Australian ingredients. After that we head further up the coast to stop by the beaches masters of hops, Modus Operandi. Learn about the colourful for tenants of the brewery space over lunch. Back down to Brookvale to visit Dad and Dave’s and then Flat Rock Brew Café before heading back over the bridge.

Brewery Tour No.4 –
Rocks Walking Tour

Nestled between the cobbled stone laneways and historic buildings. The Rocks as Australia’s first European settlement has a strong beer history. In this walking tour discover the historic stories behind the Lord Nelson Brewery Hotel, Sydney’s oldest continually licensed hotel and Australia’s oldest pub brewery. Next on the tour is The Rocks newest brewery. Endeavour Taprooms, the home of Endeavour Vintage Beer Co.

Learn how each brewery has had to deal with the constraints of setting up and operating a brewery in buildings dating back to the 1800’s, how they have drawn from the rich historical stories that surrounds them and taste their fine beers.

Brewery Tour No.5 –
Inner South Bus Tour

The Inner South is one of Sydney’s fastest growing regions. Within an arm’s reach of the city and the airport it features a mix of old staples in Sydney’s beer scene and some of it’s newest breweries.

First stop is Willie the Boatman where we learn how Pat and Nick built a brewery with the help of retired dairy equipment and eBay. Next stop is the newly opened Yulli’s brewery. With their start from restaurant to gypsy brewers to fully fledge brewery owners. For lunch we visit the boys at Frenchies for a French bistro styled beer and food pairing. Last stop is Rocks Brewing Co where we stretch out in their spacious outdoor area and look at their mash filter setup.

Brewery Tour No.2 –
Barrel, Funk and Sour Tour

For the lovers of wood, mixed fermentation and lactobacillus. This tour takes you through Sydney’s leaders of all of the above. If you’re into barrel aged, wild ales and kettle sours this is your tour.

First stop of the tour is Wildflower Brewing and Blending, where Topher will discuss how he set up Sydney’s first dedicated mixed fermentation operation, his yeast culture and approach to blending. A short drive around the corner to take an early access look at Stockade’s new barrelhouse, the new home for all their wood aged beers. Lastly we visit Batch Brewing Co and try the latest in the fruited kettle sour series and have a chat with the brew team and learn how they approach fruit additions to their kettle sours.
